With the Silver Arrow SB-E the inventor of the Twin Tower Designs presents the latest evolution of its legendary cooler-series. To this day, the IFX-14 has never been forgotten and is still in use in many cases. At its release in 2007, the twin tower heatsink presented a real sensation. No other cooler reached an even remotely comparable cooling capacity at that time. No wonder that other suppliers started to develop similar layouts based on the Thermalright cooler.

With the appearance of the Silver Arrow, including the innovative TY-140 fan in the summer of 2010 Thermalright was able to extend its supremacy further and put the competition once again in its place. The quiet and powerful cooler leads still leads cooler charts worldwide – no expert will impugn the superior performance of the dual-fan model.

Basically, there was absolutely no reason to present a new product. However, Thermalright would not have kept the leading position worldwide, if they did not constantly work to improve their own products. The Twin Towers flagship is particularly optimized for current multi-core processors of the latest generation, but also shows superior performance on all other platforms.

The main feature of the cooling giant:

  • The Silver Arrow SB-E utilizes eight 6 mm high end heatpipes
  • The heatsink is optimally adapted to the fan shape
  • One TY 141 (140 mm) and one TY 150 (150 mm) fan are included
  • Both fans use a double ball bearing in the interest of the highest possible durability
  • The fan clips are designed to almost exclude "collisions" with high memory modules (heat-spreaders)
  • The universal mounting kit for all actual Intel and AMD processors ensures maximum compatibility

The twin tower design allows for a particularly large surface area and thus forms the basis for outstanding cooling performance of the SB-E. The optimized, adapted to the fan assembly design of the cooling fins of the Silver Arrow SB-E offers especially at low fan speed and little air flow a very good performance. To increase the efficiency of the cooler, the heatpipes are soldered to the base plate - an optimal transfer of heat is guaranteed. To protect against corrosion heatpipes and base are nickel-plated. The workmanship is of the highest quality.

The base of the cooler features a slightly convex shaped support surface. The design, first developed by us several years ago, has been "borrowed" from various other manufacturers since. In comparison to flat surfaces, the convex shape further optimizes the cooling performance - especially on Intel systems.

Due to the two fans included the speed level of the fans can be kept at a low frequency at most times. In the center of the cooler operates the TY 150 fan. This 150mm fan is currently the largest standard-fan for CPU coolers - no other fan offers at identical speeds such a high capacity. The result is a very low minimum speed of the temperature-controlled fan, without the risk of higher system temperatures in return; another step on the way to the highest possible cooling performance at minimal noise generation.

Good to know that both fans usually virtually operate in idle mode, because at speeds of only 500 the TY 150 about 38.2 CFM and the TY 141 has a capacity of about 56.3 CFM at just 900 rpm.

This fan combination also impressed at the other end of the power spectrum:

The maximum air flow capacity of about 160 CFM at acceptable noise levels are currently well unbeatable by any serial cooler. The two ball-bearing fans are PWM controlled and thus automatically adapt to the individual circumstances. In order to operate both fans on a single mainboard-side PWM connector, a matching Y-cable is included.

The Silver Arrow SB-E is, of course, multiplatform compatible and comes with mounting material for all common processors. Owner of Intel LGA 775/1366/1155/1156/2011/1150 motherboards can use the cooler as well as users of AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2.
